I've been hurt on the job!  What do I do now?    Most workers have had the good fortune of never being injured on the job.  But what if you just did get hurt?  Would you know what to do?  Do you know the steps involved?  What about a minor fall, cut or knock on the head?  What about a major life threatening injury? Take a look at this chart (the link below) before you have to ask yourself, "What should I do?"

Stewards Meeting Notes
Wednesday, February 24, 2010

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on March 9, 2010.  The meeting will be held at the UAW Local 647 union hall, located at 10020 Reading Road, Evendale, Ohio.  The 2nd shift will meet starting at 12:00 Noon.  The 1st and 3rd shifts will meet starting at 3:30 PM.

There was a special 2-½ step last week to help resolve a discharge case. The Co, Local and International reps met to help iron out the problem and possibly bring the employee back to work. So far this meeting was very unproductive. A membership vote may be required to go to arbitration as a last resort.

Safety: There was a near miss reported last week in the production testing area concerning LOTO and communications between shifts. Be sure to tag systems out and when in doubt, call safety, VPP, or Co. supervision. If you think you need to tag out, you probably do. If you think you don’t have to tag out, you still probably do…

Safety barriers are being used more frequently now, and are required in many situations.

Be sure to keep an eye out for safety concerns for anyone in the area and yourself. If you see a concern, report it and don’t take a chance.

VPP News: There is now a zero tolerance on a concern reports over 30 days. Call an EHS or a VPP rep if you have an issue that is not being taken care of.

Military Collections: There was a good response from members who have family members deployed to get on the package list. The team would like to thank all those who responded and also those who help out with the mailing and packaging of products.

Made In AMERICA-Save our JOBS: The AFL-CIO request your help on a petition to help keep jobs in the United States; The Whirlpool Corp. plans to start closing its refrigerator plant in Evansville, Ind., on March 26. The refrigerators now manufactured at this plant will be produced in Mexico, eliminating 1,100 local jobs. Meanwhile, Whirlpool--the world's largest home appliance maker--enjoys healthy profits and has received a $19 million economic matching grant that should be creating jobs here in America. Petition sheets are available at some cribs and the IAM union office.

You may also sign the petition on line here:

Might as well write Congress to save our jobs too!
